Normalled inputs – e.g., for VOCT, Volume, etc. – can help reduce the number of patch cables needed

32 is addressing the normalled outputs through an expander mixer module; there are no other outputs from these modules.

Dropping in favor of polyphony for multiplying inputs. Normalled inputs would be useful for a hardware implementation though.
