3D Models Fail to Load #162

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Export 3D model from Sketchup to .dae (Collada) format, place on GEarth
instance in a browser.

What is the expected output or behavior? What do you see instead?
Previously working 3D models are now missing portions. No pattern can be
established, resetting cache will only cause different portions of the
models fail to load.

Which plugin version are you using?
Google Earth 5.0 installed.

Which browsers and operating systems are affected?
Windows XP, IE7/8 and Firefox 3.

Please provide any additional information (code snippets/links) below.

Follow up:

Any model more complicated than a PNG covered cube seems to fail. Parts of the
model will disappear.

We've had some models done natively in SketchUp, no dice.

Our (highly publicized) web app is not looking so great.. we were/are about to
launch another, *any* advice would be helpful.

It may possibly be related to caching, and is definitely caused by something
that
has happened in the last 2 months (possibly the 5.0 upgrade).

Hi jeff.denham,

Can you attach a .dae that is broken, or post a link? I haven't been able to
reproduce this with any of our models.

http://www.starwardhomes.com/dev_encore/where_on_earth_has_plugin.php

screen shot is attached.

These used to work, I guess we were always pushing the envelope in terms of
complexity and something has changed now to limit it.

Thanks for looking!

Wow.. when did that version become available? (March 31st I guess?) I went to
update and Google Updater
said I was current, and when I loaded it up everything appeared to be fine.

This is great news for us !

I still think this first attempt had some issues.. our models are definitely
too
complex, and I'm not sure if you viewed the source but that needs a bit of work
too ;)

Jeff, the models seem to be working fine for me with the new version. Is it
okay to
close out this issue?

Also, I noticed that you have a custom built touring feature. You may want to
consider using the new KmlTour and GETourPlayer interfaces. See this blog post
for
details:
