I also see this behavior for another date: kpf_20231221_master_flat_L1.fits
Looks like a bad file may be getting into the masters stack. A qc test might be helpful.
@sealauren you and/or Jared might be interested in this issue. I'm curious if you see this for the master flats you've been inspecting.
Below are plots showing strange behavior for a master flat in comparison to an individual flat (the individual file is
KP.20230912.84242.01_L1.fits
and the master flat is fromkpf_20230912_master_flat_L1.fits
). The master flat isn't really "flat" (at the edges of the order it's likely due to the blaze, but there is some structure towards the middle - particularly for the red chip - of the orders as well). The master flat is also normalized to 0 (I'm not sure if this is desired; it seems like normalization to 1 would make more sense to deal with fringing). I can work on assessing if this behavior is prevalent on other dates, but I'm not sure where to start diagnosing the problem.
