Collisions are handled by Havok which is pretty much a black box (no source code available and it isn't Keen's software). Feel free to put this on the Suggestions board on the official forum because the devs don't have time to look at GitHub too much.
So that's why it handle's a hell of a lot like source engine game...
Please keep issues productive, it seems like you only posted to complain and don't have any real suggestions.
The title says it all, the collisions are great on a small scale but with ships/vehicles the sim speed drops and the collisions start bugging out. The collisions are about as optimized as Garry's mod and that's literally an modified version of quake, as well as most people not even bothering to make things in Garry's mod. In space engineers lots of people like making large, complicated ships and the collisions need to be able to handle lots of projectile weapons or people crashing into each other without the game crashing/collisions bugging out. At the moment I'd rather the collisions work that looking good.
PS: Also you should work more on fixing bugs than releasing new content because a bunch of people stop playing space engineers because "It's a buggy mess"
