Yea, it is compatible - for now. Keep in mind that the watch is deprecated from support from apples side, and some time next year when watchOS 10 releases, I will deprecate watchOS 8 support. So you have essentially 10 months of support left.
The series 3 does not support the modern watch faces, which are the sample watch faces shipped with the app. Keep in mind, these are only samples - not practically usable. You should build your own watch face with the complications you want. Probably the status one will be your go-to.
If the complications are not available from the Apple Watch app on your phone, please configure your watch face directly on your watch - they can often take a long time or even get stuck, syncing across to your phone. Most legacy complication slots are supported with most complication types.
