Pager #249

Hi, first of I love tint2, so thankyou for making such a nice product!

This is a feature/enhancement request not an issue, but it still seemed
like the palce to post...sorry if it is not?

I was wondering about the possibility of a pager and volume control being
included in tint2?

I will give my rationilization....

For the pager, the multi desktop is not enough I feel. People have
different working styles....for me I like to have apps related to a
different task on each desktop. I also like windows to show the name and an
icon...its just what I;m used to on many different environments and don't
want to learn something new just for linux.

I think the pager would work well for those who prefer to have the panel in
single desktop mode for each desktop, and would avoid having to get 3rd
party applications to fulfill this functionality. I don't think adding this
feature would constitute bloat, as it is just making use of existing
functionality.

For volume control a similar rationale....many people go and get a 3rd
party volume control program, and most of them look ugly when integrated
with tint2. It would be nice to have a native volume control functionality
that matched themes and such.

I think the only really necessary things for a panel to have is a pager and
volume control and time....the rest is auxillary.

I understand the want to avoid bloat and such and just be simple....but I
would say by adding the battery indicator you have already made it less
simple than it could be and added useful functionality, and volume control
and a pager would compliment this nicely imo

Just my thoughts,
Thankyou

Louis

I guess I can't edit the above, but I also wonder about a minimize everything
kind of
button. It would be kind of useful for people on fluxbox and openbox so we can
easily
bring up our menu to launch something new, and then clicking the button again
would
restore all the windows to how they were?

Hi louis,

for the second request, you have an option wm_menu=1 witch allow on
fluxbox/openbox
to bring up the menu by clicking inside the panel(outside task).
no need to minimize/restore everything because it's less powerfull than *box
menu.

Hi thilor77

Thankyou for your response. I was not aware of that option, however I have set
it and
must say it does not seem to work for me. I get no error when starting tint2,
and
left or right clicking outside of a task gives no menu. Should I make a new
issue for
this?

I also would thing the minimize all feature could be quite useful for people
with
different workflows...if you like teh desktop pager idea perhaps it could be
part of
that?

Thankyou

Louis

Pager: https://code.google.com/p/neap/
Volume Control: http://softwarebakery.com/maato/volumeicon.html or
https://code.google.com/p/volti/

It is better to keep these separate from tint2 imho.
