tint2 panel not positing correct... #444

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
I'm using Slackware64 14.1, but in Slackware64 14.0 I was not having any
problems with the panel not positioning correctly, so I'm not sure what's wrong
in 14.1

What steps will reproduce the problem?

I don't know what steps produce this problem...

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The panel should appear at the bottom of the screen, but instead it is
appearing at the center.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

tint2 svn with xorg-server-1.14.3 and Slackware64 14.1

Please provide any additional information below.

xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384
VGA-0 disconnected primary (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
LVDS-0 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 382mm
x 215mm
   1920x1080 60.0*+ 40.0
DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

Here's a screen shot of the problem;

I forgot to mention I was using Openbox 3.5.2 with this panel problem, but I
was able to get the panel to work correctly with Openbox 3.5.0, not sure what's
going on since 3.5.2 with tint2 worked in the previous version of Slackware64
14.0

I managed to fix this with Openbox 3.5.2 from GIT.

Tint2 is really great, but I can't imagine it's bug free, and I really would
hope that this project lives on and gets updates to it, I've occassionally run
across things, but I see people submitting reports and there's been no
changes to the code it looks like for several years, how sad.

Truth is there isn't much to replace it for the small window managers looking
for a taskbar.

PLEASE don't let this project die!

I hope someone will awaken it and continue developing releases...

THANKS

Hi there! Thanks for your interest in tint2 and the kind words.

I am not one of the main devs, I only contributed a few small patches (e.g. the
launcher), but I am still using tint2 daily and I will try to keep it working.
Unfortunately I know next to nothing about low-level X programming so I am not
of much help with the kind of problems that appeared lately. On top of that, I
have very little free time to tinker with it :(

However I've been working on two other features that I really wanted (a system
resource monitor graph and a module that can display a text genereated by a
script that is executed periodically). TBH Conky would be the right tool for
that, but I don't have enough screen space to show tint2 and conky
side-by-side. So I implemented these features in tint2. The cloned and patched
code is in https://code.google.com/p/tint2-mods2 . It works, but the code is a
bit messy and I have been fighting for a long time a memory leak that was hard
to debug. The result is quite nice (I attached a screenshot).

Closing since it was an openbox issue
