HIPAA-Compliant Video Conferencing #31

Allow patients to sign into a portal for a practice and sit in a queue, similar to getting IT support, for a nurse or doctor to answer their questions. This will greatly benefit patients who have difficulty getting to/from a doctor's office or are too sick to leave the home. Doctors would be able to talk with the patient, actually see the patient via video, and make a pre-diagnosis before recommending a next course of steps.

I think that this type of thing is already starting to become real. What I can't tell is what's speculated, what's proposed, and what's actually being done...! You know, especially in online news articles. There's so much speculation. "We'll be able to do [X]!" And they talk about it as tho it's happening today, and to a degree maybe it is, but it ends up going no where... Anyway, I digress, my point was this sounds very familiar, I just don't know what the status is.

That said: Yes! If what I said above has an ounce of truth behind it, I think it's clear that this is needed and that people are very interested in accomplishing this. @ehumes and jbell I'm certain have talked about this and very dearly would love to see this happen.

So... others are doing it? So what! Let's do it, too! After all, this is our space. We can do this. What's stopping us?? We can do it different, better, cheaper, whatever. We can make this wheel just a little bit rounder.

What would it take to make this happen? What are the definite and potential challenges we would face?

Why hasn't this been done already?? In full scale??
