The quest doesn't progress until the item in the inventory is removed and added again

Steps to reproduce:

start game
Open the quest journal and observe the beginnings quest is at the first step (collect long stick)
Find a sharp stone and put it in the inventory
Find a long stick and put it in the inventory
Open the quest journal and observe it's telling you to collect a sharp stone, even though it's already in the inventory.
