Proposal
Media converter is a simple application and it's straightforward to use. It reduces the stress users go through just to convert from one encoding format to the other. However, I believe the application can still be improved.
File preview- While selecting the files to convert, users cannot know if they are selecting the right files. Sometimes, there are files with similar names in different folders or even files with lookalike name in the same folder. I propose the ability to preview files before selection.
Categories- You can only select files by navigating the numerous folders in your device. I propose a category way of selecting files. The files should be grouped in different categories such as
Videos, Audios, and Images. It will be a collection of strictly media's that fall into those category.
Mockups/Examples
The above shows the default selection and how it should look according to my suggestion. Users should be able to preview the media files and you can see open there. The open button will let the user preview the image, audio, or video.
This is how I want the categories option should look. You can see the default mode. You can now see the modified one where you are presented the categories and you choose anyone you preferred. It will then display the full media files under your selected category.
Benefits
Preview- This is a very good feature that will change the way the application is used. It will provide an easy way for users to know the files they want to convert right inside the application. Instead of going to rename the file, they can easily preview inside the application and know what file they should select. It reduces stress and time.
Categories- The regular smartphones have different download locations and also you see the pictures, videos, and audios all packed together. This makes it cumbersome for a user trying to find a particular media file. The category feature will be of immense help as users will be able to see all videos in their device in their device in a single location. The same applies to pictures and audios. The stress and time used in searching different folders for your media file is eradicated.
Conclusion
The application is an important one for most users as it eliminates cases of multiple downloads. Once you have a video, you can easily convert to audio eliminate the need to download the audio version. I believe that if my suggestion is implemented, the application will be more complete and reach a large number of people.
