branches without too much nvidia stuff can boot into gdm using a systemctl restart display-manager.service
.
https://github.com/tycho01/nix-config/commit/b97699a0a037c81840894e156710f939cf22da4a seems the last attempt that works, unlike head of gtk-simplify3
or gtk-simplify4
.
gtk-simplify9
's maths
works too, trying 72ac0f3b40085f58b71570101d3d0675dbe22542
.
somehow new gnome
branch fails despite being same-ish as the last gtk-simplify9
's?
I don't need xkb stuff, as just like KDE, Gnome Tweaks -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard -> Additional Layout Options -> Caps Lock Behavior -> Make Caps Lock an Additional Esc. So that leaves Nvidia stuff.
Other displayManagers
did boot okay, so I should just ditch GDM. GDM potentially not playing well with nvidia or i3 isn't helping. Impressions:
systemctl status display-manager.service
reports:session opened for user
...was already dead
. related threads suspect nvidia.
