Description:

dirty tools do not self-craft

Not enough information. Give us the steps to reproduce.

Is it manual crafting?
Is it autocrafting? If yes, which machine(s) are you trying it with?

Similar if not the same issue on 1.0.8.

Using the Crafter Tier 1, add a recipe for dirty shovel, throw in dirt and dirty sticks and no dice. Update the recipe to stone shovel and toss in the ingredients and it crafts immediately. The dirty ax didn't work either. Both the dirty pickaxe and the dirty stick + water bucket recipes worked, so seems like it only affects the 2x2 dirty tool recipes.
