Modified to work without appindicator #20

Closed petracvv closed 6 years ago

petracvv commented 11 years ago

I added code to use a simple GTK tray icon in the absence of the appindicator package (and still use appindicator if applicable i.e in Ubuntu). It was working fine in both Ubuntu and Fuduntu (Gnome 2) and it should work fine in Gnome 3 (I think). I'm still really new to github so if I have to do anything else, please let me know.

good addition! I'll see if I can combine this with the refactor pull request!

Awesome to see this guys, great to see issues getting resolved!

petracvv commented 11 years ago

Thanks for including it! Any ETA on the new version?

you people don't give a flying fuck about Linux at all!!! If you did, this program would would on 12.04

Kilian commented 11 years ago

Chill out timpster, This is an open source thing I do in my spare time, and lately I don't have much of that. If you care, feel free to fork, merge them both in, test them and deliver it as a pull request, and I will be happy to release a new version.

Yes timpster, please chill out. I'd also like to point out that your comment is incorrect. It should be "you people don't give a flying fuck about ubuntu at all!!!" if anything. Ubuntu 12.04 != All of linux.

The flux indicator app is working for me on Debian. If you submit an issue, Killian seems to be addressing them very quickly even though it isn't an official flux supported project and something he does on his own time.

Thanks for this great app, hope I can see new feature and beautiful UI in Linux such as OSX. Great thanks.

Some time ago I made this patch for Gentoo because the AppIndicator version in this distribution had no bindings for Python at the time (more details here). If Kilian is still interested in the idea, he is free to use the patch in the code. PS: I did not include this in my last commit because I'm not sure if the keyboard shortcuts (to pause and open the preferences dialog) work with this arrangement.

This pull request is now irrelevant.
