Uninstall MobileTerminal

Download http://apt.saurik.com/debs/mobileterminal_364.3-12_iphoneos-arm.deb to
/var/mobile

Install 'OpenSSH' and 'sudo' via Cydia.

SSH into your iPhone (or iPod/iPad) (http://cydia.saurik.com for a tutorial)
Login: mobile
Password: alpine

Execute "sudo dpkg -i ~/*.deb"

Respring

I'm a little confused, it says "Open Terminal on desktop" where do I get that?

Original comment by patq...@gmail.com on 10 Oct 2010 at 5:39

On OS X it's terminal.app
On Linux distributions it's Console or whatever on your Distribution
On Windows it's CMD

'ssh' is not a recognizable internal or external command, operable program or
batch file.

Sorry I'm kinda new at this.

Oh, you're using windows then.
Download WinSCP, connect to your phone using the iDevice's IP address (as seen
on Settings > Wi-Di Networks > Little Blue Dot with arrow > IP Address)

Alternatively, you could download iFile (shareware version is enough, no need
to buy), search for the .deb and touch "Install", then reboot

That was always clear to me since teh command "ssh" is included in all
UNIX-systems like OS X or all Linux/BSD versions.

The easiest way for you would be installing iFile (just install, it's free) and
going to /var/mobile, then pres the .deb-File and "install".

is ther e a need for screenshots?

With WinSCP it keeps giving me "error network timed out" when I connect with
the IP and mobile:alpine.

Ok iFile installed it, but I still can't connect with WinSCP (Network error:
Connection timed out)

You don't need to connect via SCP, in fact you can't because I forgot to
mention you had to install OpenSSH to; sorry.

In fact, you don't need to connect via SCP, why would you want to do so?

Oh I read you wrong, It was SCP or iFile, I thought it was "and". But I still
don't know how(or where for that matter) to use/get a terminal like program on
my computer (to SSH)

Or have I read everything wrong and I don't need to do anything on my computer?

No, there is really no use for a PC^^

1. First, uninstall Mobileterminal within Cydia
2. Download the .deb on your iPhone
http://apt.saurik.com/debs/mobileterminal_364.3-12_iphoneos-arm.deb
 - I recommend you the Safari Download Manager, but since it's a paid extension, also the Safari Download Plugin should be fine
3.) Download and install iFile with Cydia
4.) Open iFile and go to the location you downloaded the .deb to
It's either /var/mobile , /var/mobile/Library/Downloads or
/var/mobile/Media/Downloads
5.) Press the .deb and then "Installer"

I know this is the totally wrong spot, but would you happen to know how to fix
the error "Download Failed, Could not create download folder? (For Safari
Download Plugin)

But other-wise everything works fine now, thank you.

mkdir /var/mobile/Library/Downloads

But if this occurs, Safari DL Plugin isn't compatible with iOS 4

Spend some bucks on Safari Download Manager, it's awesome

Yes, with your iPhone

Buy Safari Download Manager or install OpenSSH, then "ssh
root@iPhone.IP.Address"
"passwd root"
