Need 802.1x support #64

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
   Can ChromeCast please support 802.1x?

This is necessary for use in corporate and academic settings.

I can't find a true feature request section for ChromeCast so I'll post this
here. I figure if we get enough stars here we may find planned support for
802.1x.

Thanks.

Second that. Would love to use this at work to mirror my display onto the
projector. Need support for PEAP.

Yes please include this. It would make use in schools much more prevalent.

I also would love if this could happen. The device is useless at universities
essentially.

If this is not an SDK bug, where should it be reported? If it has been taken
into consideration by the Chromecast team, is there a way to track progress?

Is there any progress on this?? Not being able to use it in an academic setting
is not cool.

Dits. Network admin at a 2000-student university and we're getting lots of
requests from teachers wanting to use these, believe it or not.

I've got 802.1x set up at home and can test if needed. Using PEAP and
MS-CHAP-V2 with Windows Server 2008 r2 as the RADIUS server.
This would be great! I can't use my Chromecast without it because my laptop and
phone and tablet only connect to the "Secure" network.

Not having 802.1x is preventing my university from seriously considering
Chromecast for meeting rooms and classrooms.

This would be great. I have no use for one until they support this.

Any update on this? I am sure there are plenty of use here who would be willing
to test beta code releases if needed and provide feedback.

Please if you are visiting this blog and want this feature post it and sign up
for notifications. The more we get the more notice we may bring to the issue.

Yes. I bought a Chromecast dongle for use in my dorm, but it's useless because
Google isn't allowing support of 802.1X secured networks. This needs to be
added or my device is a $35 paper weight.

a workaround i found for this issue is to connect an ethernet cable to your
computer and download "Virtual Router Plus" on your computer which is free and
then you can create your own wifi network and connect your chromecast to that
network. But still we shouldnt have to do this, i really hope chromecast gets
802.1x soon.
