Guest Editors: Jennifer H. Pfeifer, Nicholas B. Allen, Michelle L. Byrne and Kathryn L. Mills

Neuroimaging techniques including structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging, diffusion tensor imaging, and resting-state functional connectivity have been increasingly employed to examine normative and atypical trajectories of brain development and their relation to changes in cognitive, affective, motivational, and social processes. Over time, many methodological and analytic issues have arisen, including modeling procedures; statistical thresholding and power; choosing appropriate templates, processing streams, and tasks; data sharing; as well as addressing confounding factors inherent in developmental data such as age or pubertal development, clinical and behavioral trajectories, missing data, and individual differences. Some of these and other issues are relatively unique to the study of development, and many of them are further complicated in the case of longitudinal data analysis.

This special issue of Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience aims to present papers that make headway in understanding and overcoming these methodological concerns. Papers in this issue may also aim to shape strategic priorities, and provide “Best Practice” Guidelines for the processing and analysis of developmental neuroimaging data. Papers including other non-imaging methodologies, such as EEG and ERP, will also be considered as long as connections are made with neuroimaging methodologies. Because papers should focus on methodological issues inherent to developmental processes, attention to longitudinal methodologies and analysis will be prioritized; but any paper that relates to special developmental issues in imaging methodology will be considered. Letters of Interest not to exceed one page should be submitted to the editors by September 30, 2016, and should include an abstract, title, and list of proposed authors. Invitations will be issued by October 15, 2016. Paper submissions will be due by January 15, 2017.
