Site can hang for long periods

The underlying database serves a number of applications and web sites so its not quite clear where the problem lies.

latest problem led to a corrupted database after restore - work underway to recreate the database based on the latest release

database reconstructed with new sofware - backups working again but only manually triggered from the dashboard at present
