Game crashes immediately if any mod is enabled #144

Sadly not that much to add aside what title says. On a fresh install of Steam version, veryfing integrity, let the flagrum mod manager re-read all the game files, resetting cashes, running as an administrator and such, the game just crashes before any loading screen. I thought the problem was reshade but even after uninstalling it I get the same problem. No mods installed through steam workshop, no mods installed manually. Any help is appreciated!

BlhiteGit commented 7 months ago

Anyway I'm on windows 10 Home by the way. A weird behaviour that I can think of is that after installation of flagrum, verifying that it works, and turning on all my virus protections (because the setup.exe is flagged as one), the anti-virus find something "somewhere" that is not the setup.exe, but I have no idea is it's a file needed for the modmanager to work. So in the end, maybe that's the problem, but I'm still asking if anybody had the same problem as mine. Again thank you for reading!

Edit: I tryied a fresh instal of the mod manager with the antivirus completely off even when using the manager, nothing, still crashes at the start :/

BlhiteGit commented 7 months ago

And of course, I have all the DLC, Ardyn's one too, and I'm tryied only recently released official mods like Guest character Unlocker. Sorry for the multiple posts, I just realized that I could have modified the original post instead :P

Can I ask one more question that doesn't concearns bugs specifically? Is there a way to change Flagrum main directory? It installs itself always in C: while I want to install it on my D: drive!

Kizari commented 7 months ago

You can move Flagrum and all its files as well as your mods to another drive using this guide on the wiki: https://github.com/Kizari/Flagrum/wiki/Running-Flagrum-on-a-Different-Drive

Just be aware that any enabled mods will still be applied to wherever FFXV itself is installed, so it may still use some space on C: if FFXV is installed there.

As for your issue with the game crashing, I have no idea what would be causing that if the antivirus isn't deleting any of Flagrum's files. Does the problem still occur if you only enable one simple mod and no others? For example, Quick Boot Suite?

BlhiteGit commented 7 months ago

I tryed Quick Boot too (the less intrusive one) and no dice again, sadly. Yeah, tried multiple mods, alone and smaller ones and from different authors, recent and new. The game is installed in my D: , it should be no problem then. About the directories that the modmanager needs to run, the "game directory" and the "bitmap" one (or whatchyacallit), the first is easy, just point out the game exe and it's done, but what about the second one? It automatically fills out and it's directed to one of the files in the savefile folder, right? That files it's on the C: drive, don't know if this cause some sort of bad interaction with the manager since game and savefile are in different drives. If I find some new information about the problem I'll let you know, thank you for the help thou o7 I'll try to install the manager on the D: when I can and see if something changes!

Edit: can be Reshade? Know that I tryed to run the MM even after uninstalling reshade and the game still crashes, but maybe some leftover files broke something?

Kizari commented 7 months ago

The second path (binmod.list path) doesn't matter in the slightest unless you want Flagrum to manage Steam Workshop mods. You can point it at an empty txt file called binmod.list and everything will still work fine.

As for ReShade, I'm not really sure. Have heard of plenty of issues that stemmed from the use of it, but have never used it personally nor do I know how it works, so I can't really comment on whether or not it may have broken something permanently.

Did you have any other kind of weird behaviour with Flagrum at any point along the way? Like did it crash when enabling the mods or anything weird?

BlhiteGit commented 7 months ago

Flagrum itself seems to work fine, installs things properly and no problem in disabling mods too, the only time something crashes is after I double click the game icon, it opens the game window but after some seconds it just disappears. Mmm maybe really is Reshade, but I need some time in order to verify it because I don't know what are the leftover files and I have to remove stuff manually and do the "verify files integrity" through steam, and it takes a lot of time with 100 gigs games :V I'll report as soon as I can

Rinual commented 6 months ago

I usually recommend fully deleting your full steam ffxv directory and reinstalling just to make sure you have all files deleted that were not part of the original game, as those wont get deleted with just a basic re-installation or game file validation. Files such as reshade for example would persist with file validation, so if some external .dll or something is interfering with the game launch, steam validation will not help.

if re-downloading the full game isnt an option, at least manually deleting all the loose files adjacent to game .exe within that same folder, and just leave the game data folder alone, and after that re-validating. It wont be as failsafe as a full reinstall, but its better then just the default revalidation

Let us know if this problem persists after that however.

I opted to uninstall the game and completely purge the FF XV folder altogether. I'll report after the re-installation!

BlhiteGit commented 6 months ago

Still crashes. I'm out of options ahah. Literal super fresh install, fresh folder, fresh flagrum install, fresh mod install ("remove guest characters") and yet, double click on the game > black screen in full screen > crash :(

Question: does Flagrum install things that cause the game to run in DirectX 12? Because the same problem happen to Elden Ring when I try to launch it normally, it crashes immediately unless I fiddle with the dxgI.dll and makes the game to run in a DirectX "understandable" for my PC.

Rinual commented 6 months ago

Well that rules out reshade at least, and currently the game loads fine with zero mods enabled, but crashes with any mod enabled?

If other games are having similar issues running natively, probably worth trying to update your graphics drivers and such, but no, flagrum does not force the game to run directX 12 or anything, and really doesnt do much of anything to the game itself besides tell the .exe to use its own patch system that they had on console and disabled on pc.

BlhiteGit commented 6 months ago

At least yeah, it's not reshade. Anyway thank you for your support guys, if I come up with new ideas I'll let you know o7

LotusLagan commented 6 months ago

i have the same problem. It happens to me when I talk to Cindy for the first time (when I have to ask her for money to then kill the scorpions)
