Reaction scheme

KBS40 NBS reaction on 2-acetyl-5-bromopyridine

Outcome

2.752 g, of which 2.5608 g is calculated to be mono/bromo product. (93% conversion rate, 87% yield)

Same method as in #126. SM = 2.003 g (10.0 mmol), tosic acid = 2.60 g (15.1 mmol, 1.5 equiv.) and NBS = 2.134 g (11.99 mmol, 1.2 equiv.). Left stirring at heat from ~12 pm.

TLC indicated starting material remained but worked up anyway. See #126 for workup - used 150 mL DCM, 2 x 175 mL water, 150 mL brine.

Empty vial: 15.6711 Mass: 2752.5 g, of which 2.5608 g is calculated to be mono/bis bromo product.
