  1. Added 1.00 g (6.98 mmol) of 1-naphthylamine to a 50 mL flask
  2. Added 7 mL of hydrochloric acid (3.4 M)
  3. Added sodium nitrite (627 mg, 9.66 mmol, 1.4 equiv.) dissolved in water (2 mL)
  4. Cooled to 0 C for 15 minutes
  5. Added sodium azide (1.3 equiv.)
