  1. Dissolved KSCN (728 mg, 1 equiv.) in acetone (20 mL)
  2. Added benzoyl chloride (0.8 mL, 1.1 equiv.)
  3. Heated to 60 C with stirring for 45 minutes
  4. Added 2-trifluoromethylaniline (1.0808 g, 6.71 mmol) and left stirring at 60 C from 11.30 am

H NMR

1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO) δ 12.63 (s, 1H), 11.94 (s, 1H), 8.03, 8.01, 7.84 - 7.67 (m, 4H), 7.56 (t, 3H).

LRMS

Peaks at 347.05 [M+Na]+, 323.02 [M-H]-. Not sure why peak at 669.14 has a -4 charge - if it was -1 this would correspond to [2M - 2H + Na]-.

1H NMR (500 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 12.67 (s, 1H), 11.92 (s, 1H), 8.06 – 8.00 (m, 2H), 7.87 – 7.80 (m, 2H), 7.80 – 7.74 (m, 1H), 7.73 – 7.66 (m, 1H), 7.60 – 7.53 (m, 3H).

19F NMR (471 MHz, DMSO) δ -59.92.

13C NMR (126 MHz, DMSO) δ 181.71, 168.84, 135.88, 133.36, 132.83, 131.74, 130.86, 128.81, 128.47, 127.77, 126.18 (q), 124.64, 124.53, 124.40, 122.35.
