I have the same issue. From what I've sampled, it looks like all the contacts
are being pulled from my gmail account. So, now my phone says to contact some
person I emailed 3 years ago if I lose my phone. I would replace it but the
rest are just numbers and are probably equally unknown. I have tried the
following:
Clearing the cache of contact owner
Uninstalling contact owner
Reinstalling contact owner
Deleting the contact in gmail
Nothing works. I'm just stuck with contact info for a person I don't know.
Evo, 2.1, not rooted

The numbers are in order of the contacts in the list. Assuming you have gmail,
go to your contacts online (PC) then see where you are in relation to the
contact that shows, then count.
So if you selected #67 on your phone and it is John Q Public, look at your "ALL
CONTACTS" list on gmail and from Johbn Q Public, count to your contact you want
to show up ( lets say it is 10 below John Q Public) then go back to your phone
and count 10 down from #67 on the list ( not to #77 but 10 SLOTS down) and that
should be the one you want.
Yeah it sucks, but that is the only workaround I have found...

I didn't uninstalled. But manage to show my e-mail instead of a friend :)
Yes when you uninstall the application the message stays there. I think I read
somewhere, that you just need to set a new alarm and unset afterwards, and the
message will disappear. Because the application uses the space of the text
alarm on the lock screen (I'm guessing :) ).

I found an easier workaround based on comment #3.
1. On your phone, edit the contact you want to use and add a 1(one) to the
beginning of the contact's name (1John Q Public). This will cause it to jump
to the top of the list.
2. Go to contact selection screen in Owner and choose the first contact on the
list of 3-digit numbers.
3. Go back and rename your contact back to what it was before step 1. Owner
should detect the change and update the name it displays within a minute or two.

My phone was slightly used when I bought it, I did Factory reset to delete all
contacts and some applications but the display still has the name and phone
number of the first user. I installed contact owner app. and put in my details
but it still dispalys the details of the first user. how do I change to my
contact since the phone is now mine? pls help me.

I have a similar problem. My contact list from which I'am to chose a contact
has only a single entry and shows only the comment field.
No problem so far with Android's 'Contacts' app. My Google account has no
entries at all.
Maybe this problem has to do with the update to Froyo yesterday. The same error
occurs with the Barcode Scanner app when I want to show the QR Code of a
contact.
