Question About Updating a 1.7.10 Fairy Mod Port to 1.18.2 #11

Hello! I know is this probably random and I know this isn't the best place to contact you about this question, but I wasn't sure where would be a good place to contact you. I did see a link to your nexus page in another github issue on this repository, and sent a message there, but I wasn't sure if you still are active on there. I know you mentioned an email in your reply to the other issue but I don't know if its just me, but I couldn't find the email.

I made a port based on two 1.7.10 ports of your old fairy factions mod to 1.18.2 for nostalgia purposes (One is on CurseForge and one is on PlanetMinecraft). I wanted to play with the mod in the Minecraft version I was playing in. I noticed those versions of the 1.7.10 ports hasn't been updated in years and no one else has attempted to update them. A lot of people seem to want 1.18.2 or a 1.19 version of the mod and I thought maybe I could share what I managed to port over. I want to ask for permission to share it first though. I wanted to ask the people who made the ports if I could upload my port anywhere but I didn't know where to contact them and I thought it might just be better if I asked you since you are the original author. Would it be alright if I upload my port of the fairy factions mod on CurseForge, if you are ok with it?

Hi my guy!

Sorry that it was difficult for you to find a way to reach out to me. I always support the wishes of fans who want to keep my old works alive and functional for a new generation of Minecraft players. By all means, go right ahead and share what you've managed to update.

Side note since you may be interested. HeyLookFairies, the github project you stumbled upon, was a very short-lived attempt of my own at a new revival of Minecraft fairies. I managed to make some interesting stuff but quickly lost steam due to the exhausting amount of overhead in editing .json files in new versions of minecraft. Things have really changed over the years! Here's a shot of what the new fairies would have looked like:

Anyway. Bless you for still modding minecraft in this day and age. And good luck in all your future endeavors.

Thanks so much! I was able to get most of the functionally ported over. Its just small bugs now I can't seem to figure out how to fix such as bugs with the flying movement, fairies will sometimes disband completely despite being close to the queen (it used to happen a lot more often but I managed to fix it somewhat), small issue with how fairies hold their items, etc. I'll mostly spend the rest of my night with another last attempt to fix them before I upload. I took some screenshots of what I have too:

Oh yes! I started messing around with making mods for 1.7.10 and when I switched to the modern versions I was so confused with all the json files and annoyed with how tedious it was copy pasting them over and over. Thankfully there was a method forge put in place (I think 1.16) to auto generate most json files for items and blocks and its such a time saver! There are some things I missed in 1.7.10. Mainly I miss how easy it was to generate things ores and trees, especially trees. You need like so many components now for ONE tree XD. But at least the code is more organized in modern versions and the mappings that exist give more names to methods and fields. Makes it easier to figure out what code does what (Also side note, the picture that you attached doesn't seem to show up for me. It only shows as "[image: image.png]".

I was inspired by this mod, as well as other mods such as Ars Magica 2, Thaumcraft, and Botania, to try to make a mod of my own and I realized how much I loved coding from experimenting. I really love the things you and the other moders have made and I'll never forget the memories I've made playing these mods during that time. Thanks for creating such a magical, cute and awesome mod and I hope you have a good day/ afternoon/ night!

"there was a method forge put in place (I think 1.16) to auto generate most json file" oooh, intriguing... well minecraft isn't going anywhere anytime soon, maybe I'll give it another shot eventually. And it's good to hear that you're getting passionate about coding through modding, I was the same way. But more formal programming education really pays off and teaches you invaluable habits like commenting, proper code structure, and source control like Github. Keep at it, and let me know if you end up releasing something of your own.
