This is not an issue, I love this package, I discovered it 2 years ago and have been using it ever since. I just realized that your last online activity (github and twitter) was about a year ago, I was wondering if everything was ok. I hope everything is ok and you are doing well, thanks.

I was just about to ask the same thing @Koed00, do you need any help with the maintenance of the project?

Koed00 commented 2 years ago

Thanks for asking how I'm doing. I've been offline for a while due to some real life events that I had to deal with. This has led to me not being active at all with any of my online projects unfortunately.

Great to see that so many people are using Django-Q and I would love to find a way for it to be maintained better. I would be open to having more people join as maintainers and hopefully that way keep the project alive.

@Koed00 Good to hear you are okay :).

As much as I'd like to help out, I do not have the capacity at the moment. But there are some options!

1) Pin the message about looking for maintainers in the readme. And later on, move the project under its own organisation - so it is easier to add maintainers.

2) Ask https://jazzband.co/ to help with the maintenance - as far as I know, they maintain many django-related projects.

Eventually, I could help to spread the word in the community.

@Koed00 I hope that your problems have been completely resolved and if not, that you are at least getting there. Thanks for your work on django-q. I think @1oglop1's suggestions are worth considering, especially the jazzband one. As far as helping to maintain the project, I'd be happy to help, but it might take me a while to be helpful, I'm not at all familiar with django-q code or building task queue managers. I don't think you will have much trouble finding maintainers for this package.

Koed00 commented 2 years ago

I actually started the process of moving to jazzband, but never got to finish it.
I'll try to make some time this weekend to do some cleanup and see if it is transferable in its current state.

jimjag commented 2 years ago

@Koed00 I volunteer to help. I use django-q on a number of projects, I'm proficient in Python and I have some experience in open source (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Jagielski).

@Koed00 It's good to read that you are still there and to see a sign of life ❤️ . I hope for you that you will manage to deal with the things you have to deal with and can find the energy again in the future to do things that make you happy.

Let us know if we can do anything to migrate this project to jazzband, maybe you could add some issues in the project tracker of this repo.

I will be available for helping out as well when needed.

I was ready and pumped to go, and then my entire family caught Corona. Everyone is doing fine now, I just need to find time to work on this. I really appreciate all the offered support.

I hope you are well. This project needs maintenance: 245 issues can be quite ok, but 53 PRs seems too much work done by community and not appreciated.

Django-Q dependencies are also getting too old. Please @Koed00 let us help this project.

  1. Move the project to a dedicated (even django-q is good) organization like @1oglop1 has proposed
  2. Check some PRs and it they are good, ask their developers to join your organization
  3. Update dependecies and docs and fix issues together

from that moment on PRs can be reviewed by anyone in the team.

Thank you @Koed00, please don't let this simple and effective project to expire
