Can you ensure which version of the automator action it says its using, and
also what version of Growl? It works with the 2.0 automator action, and there
has been no changes in the action since somewhere in the 1.3.x line (Where it
was broken, and did need fixing).

Also, ensure you don't have extra copies of it installed somewhere like in
~/Library/Automator or /Library/Automator.

Verified that install from the store on clean 10.8.1 install works.

Automator Action version 1.4 as seen in Automator

Growl version 1.4

But oddly it may be that my Growl installation may be damaged, as I cannot see
the Growl in preference pane. I did have problems in updating the Growl to 1.4
due to problems with Apple Store, and I had to remove the Growl and reinstall
it.

Sorry, it seems that my Growl just was jammed - reboot and some clean up were
needed.

Automator action works as designed.

You may close the ticket.
