Fatigue from firing #1185

Closed kripto202 closed 10 years ago

I've been watching some firefight videos and one thing i noticed on the videos is that everyone gets worn out when firing their guns for a while. I can understand because of all the recoil and all. What do you guys think, should people get tired from shooting their guns depending on what they shoot?

jonpas commented 10 years ago

Fatigue system is more than enough already... to be fatigued when shooting as well, I am against it.

kripto202 commented 10 years ago

You may think its a bad idea but its realistic. If you shoot a lmg or a sniper, you get tired pretty fast because of large recoil.

jonpas commented 10 years ago

Yeah I see what you mean and I have nothing against the idea myself, just giving some feedback. If this does get implemented though, it needs a module setting for sure.

I never saw a military element in need to take rain check on its mission because it was too tired from firing its weapon. If Arma events would last days and firefights uninterrupted hours, you could have a point but not here, imho. Please don't forget your character is supposed to a professional military trained to perform better on the field than what an armchair tactician in overweight could do. ;)

As for fatigue in overall, one must not forget a fundamental difference between Arma and RL: in Arma you walk only when you are forced to, in RL you run only when you are forced to.

Have a great Monday guys.

Don't think this is necessary.

Agreed.

Tbh i was groupleader once at training and thats the most exhausting thing. Shooting is not exhausting. At least the austrian weapon nearly dont has a recoil. Its possible to shoot with outstreched arm. Accurate(somehow) - was just a test

natrius commented 10 years ago

So, not necessary imho

kripto202 commented 10 years ago

What calaber were you using? Of course that smaller guns doesnt have much recoil but im talking about larger guns and guns with more kick. If you all are worried about the stamina system, you can have it set where you recover faster in the modules. If anything, have a module where you can set stamina cost if you are all so worried about it

jonpas commented 10 years ago

This is Arma, and yes this is AGM, where A stands for Authentic, but IMO that's a bit too far, main feature is still to have fun.

kripto202 commented 10 years ago

Arma stays fun if there is a challenge. If everything stays in your favor IMO isnt fun. The fact that you work for the win is what makes it best. Also, like i said this could be turned on or off through a module.

5,56 x 45 mm NATO, Steyr AUG A1. (Tried the MG3 once too, was pretty funny, laying down and spray somwhere) But thats not the point. If you shoot with something bigger you lay down, rest the weapon or something like that because you wanna hit something, not shoot somewhere around like rambo(yeh, Rambo hits everything, okay...). If you do this all the time, its maybe heavy, yepp ^^ And if you run around - bigger calibers are heavy, better the weapons, and those weapons influence the stamina already. And if you shoot with bigger weapons, there should be more recoil - but thats part of the weapon-mods itself, not AGM as far as i know.

kripto202 commented 10 years ago

Yes resting your gun helps cut the recoil. We all know that not everyone lays down or rest their gun all the time to fire. There are people who would use a 50 cal sniper standing up with nothing to rest on. IRL, you would be on your ass. Since there is no animation for getting knocked back, then it should hurt your stamina. 5.56 shouldn't do much to nothing at all on our stamina if you are firing in controlled shots. But in your firing your entire mag, you should be a little bit tired because you have to deal with recoil in a rapid state but not where your all out of breath. All modded guns are basically the same to the vanilla weapons because of their caliber, all modded guns are just retextures TBH. This shouldn't be a huge thing to do, doing this just requires a little toying around.

Daantjeeuh commented 10 years ago

I don't think this needs to be implemented. Soldiers get trained to fire a weapon, and I have never heard anyone about fatigue when shooting. Yeah you need to control the recoil, but if this really should have an impact on your fatigue... No Imo.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and say people who do this are probably not the people that AGM is meant for. In my milsim group we take cover and make sure we have a good firing position before we even start engaging

KoffeinFlummi commented 10 years ago

The people says no, and I'd agree.
