interchangeable pods for CSAT Taru #1520

I was wondering if it is possible to have the pods changeable with the CSAT Taru. Right now you can only sling load the different parts but what if you could switch pods by attaching and detaching each pod by the same heli. I can't talk today...

I doubt it. For the same reasons the different HEMET variants are not interchangeable. They are different models and some things, like passenger cargo positions, can't be turned on and off, due to the way Arma handles these things.

While it would be possible to change the vehicle with a script, there's way too many issues for it to be worth it.

So, in short, no.

Way to jump the gun, what about the attachto function?

kripto202 commented 10 years ago

There has be some reason that this guy was able to get it to work

KoffeinFlummi commented 10 years ago

Yes you can use attachTo, but then you run into different issues:

Again, it might be possible to attach a pod to the vehicle, but it isn't possible to do so without causing major issues.

this mod came up just recently. I haven't tried it out yet but since this person and the mcc team can make interchangeable pods for the taru, it shouldn't be too hard to get it to work. After I did some testing with mcc's ability to change pods, the concept was very simple on how they did it. They did use the attachTo function on the taru. Its just the basic idea of that towing script that you see on wasteland servers but they have it positioned where it looks like its connected.

You can't switch between pilot and passengers

I don't see the problem because you wouldn't be able to switch seats to the pilot if you are in the pod.

the passengers of the pod wouldn't be part of the actual vehicle, causing issues with all kinds of scripts

What scripts? I haven't had any problems in the mcc version. (I am trying to get this function for the people that doesn't use mcc)

All config differences between the standalone taru and the varient of the pod are lost.

From my experience of the taru and the taru with a pod, There are no differences at all in how they flew. I like to get some arma pilots point of view in how both types of tarus fly different, if any.

What scripts?

Anything that relies on crew or in vehicle which is basically any script that has to do with vehicles.

I bet the mass of the base variant and the variants with the pods are significantly different, resulting in differences in flight behaviour especially if you have the "Advanced Flight Model" enabled.
