Different missile launching modes #339

Since the Titans are Spikes, Fire-And-Forget-Plus would be awesome. Also, whatever the NLAW has.

I added a top down attack mode you see in all the bad games and movies to the mini spikes (titans).

Dunno what else such missile systems have, or how Fire-And-Forget-Plus would look like in Arma.

Note: LockTarget is compatible with addAction

[player, "LockTarget", {true}, {systemChat "hi"}] call AGM_Core_fnc_addActionEventHandler

Could be very important for aircraft missiles!

Will it be possible to lock and fire at targets behind your airplane?

The fifth generation of AAMs is capable to attack targets in a 360° radius.

You lock the target behind you with the Helmet Display and after launch the missile makes a 180° turn to the target and you could get rid of the enemy on your tale or behind you.

Another feature could be marking targets with your Helmet Display for the guided 70mm rockets. Useable on little birds and other 70mm carriers. In the future major armies will use guided 70mm via laser or Helmet Display instead of "dumb" 70mm rockets.

I don't know if this fits "Different missile launching modes" and if this issue could be solved by selecting modes but I didn't want to open another issue.

Maybe you could think and discuss about that :)

Would be nice if AGM would improve missiles in the game in general. If you consider the timeline and the progress in the next years many armys will make. Arma3 doesn't fit the timeline and progress quite well with this issue in my opinion.

I don't think we should introduce more speculative future technology that may or may not be developed, specially if it goes against making gameplay interesting

The fifth generation of AAMs is capable to attack targets in a 360° radius.

I find this hard to believe. Do you have any reference for that? NM, wikipedia says this for the AIM9X. I still think this would be extremely boring though.

OntoT13 commented 9 years ago

Its not specualtive. It happens via LOAL.

"Testing work on the AIM-9X Block II version began in September 2008.[19] The Block II adds Lock-on After Launch capability with a datalink, so the missile can be launched first and then directed to its target afterwards by an aircraft with the proper equipment for 360 degree engagements, such as the F-35 and F-22." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIM-9_Sidewinder

The EF 2000 will be also capable of performing 360° attacks with the IRIS-T. The Spanish Airforce tested it a couple of months ago. But only digitally I guess (Have to read that again.. It was in a german journal called ESuT). Without firing the missile. Only locking and simulating. Testing software and so on.

About guided 70mm: Commy and KoffeinFlummy know about the guided 70mm issue. So I guess they already have a opinion if this would be appropriate for AGM. Many countries are developing upgrades for the 70mm. DAGR Lockheed Martin, ROKETSAN for the Turkish Army, GILA from Diehl and so on.

I don't think it's speculative. The upgrades for smart 70mm rockets are not far away. Would be nice if there would be more ways to use the 70mm rockets.

Laserguided and LOAL via Helmet Display would be a thing. But I have no clue if this is even possible in Arma3. A missile that hits a target which the pilot is looking at with his display.

Will you take the TMR Nlaw system? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3I1c_NGAjE and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFElAJ19qkc
