more video problems #81

Ok, tweet a video, it uploads to yFrog normally. The tweet is successfully on
Twitter. Sometimes
the video is fine. Other times, such as last night and this morning (total of 3
tweets):

1. On Home controller view (message list), the video has no preview image. Now,
after several
hours, it has no preview image. See attached image "messagelist.png". Suggest
that if their is no
preview from yFrog, that we show something or say something to let users know
the video is not
ready instead of a blank.
2. On message detail view (see attached image "messagedetail.png") the video
preview is still not
ready after several hours?
3. On twitter.com, you can click on the video link and you get a yFrog message
that the video is
not ready yet. See attached image "ontwitter.png"
4. If videos do not work or do not work reliably, should we remove the video
function
completely? This will really confuse users and they will think that the app
does not work well. It
should not take several hours for a video preview to appear and for the video
to be ready to be
viewed. Twitter is quick and immediate. Video that is not ready for hours is
not what we need.
Are you seeing the same issues?

There is an open issue currently with mobile videos not converting. It's been
up and
down last few days. Developers are working on a solution. This will cause the
missing
thumbnail and unplayable videos.

Why is Tweetie for iPhone able to post video smoothly to yFrog but
Tweetero/yFrog can not? What do
we need to change? It was working some of the time but now not at all. This
needs to be a reliable
feature.

I noticed the same. Video is slow uploading on yfrog app, but quick on the
Imageshack
app. I'm guessing this may be from the chunked api.

Looks like videos are on a backlog. They should catch up within 14 hours.

I received an email from ImageShack support that they are having a problem with
video uploads and that they are
working to resolve it. So, I guess that is the main problem.

But, I think we need to have a mechanism in place to notify users that their
video is not yet processed instead of
a blank in the message list and a preview icon that does not really provide any
info. On the web (twitter.com), it
is not a problem because the twitter website links to yFrog which says "video
being processed...". But with the
yFrog/Tweetero app, there should be some notification to the user about what is
going on. Otherwise, it looks
like a blank spot in the Home list, and a non-working video preview in the
tweet view.

To implement a temporary video preview thumbnail we need to introduce new
functionality. This functionality assumes sending additional
requests before loading thumbnail to figure out actual video state (complete,
error, queued). As a result we got an additional time delays to
process requests and risks to broke existing loading mechanism.

More over it looks like the problem with blank preview thumbnails is solved on
ImageShake server side and the issue has
lost severity. Thus I propose to defer the issue to later release cycles.

I agree. I feel this issue can be resolved on the Imageshack server side by
placing a
temporary image in the place of the video slide until the preview is ready. I've
already made the request.

Video servers are back up with new software and some more changes coming soon to
increase reliability. Hopefully video shouldn't be an issue going forward.
