Will TheTVDBs transformation to Uncle Scrooge affect ME? #1051

Should've guessed something fishy was going on when they shut down...

On a personal level this sucks since I no longer will be able to add new shows which will make them impossible to add to trakt.tv.

But how will this affect ME? I sure hope your rewrite of the scraper isn't relying on TheTVDB.

The rewrite will make TheTvDb optional. The CustomTvScraper depends on TMDb, though. :)

What do you mean with Uncle Scrooge? Ducktales? 😄

TMDb is a great alternative. I just wish more people contributed to it. We need to do a TMDb drive or something since TVDB is turning its back on its userbase. It's not like they have a reputation for being reliable or anything either.

Yes, that Uncle Scrooge. I guess you didn't get their mail yesterday about making it a pay site when they transfer to their new API? Tried finding it on their site so I could link it in my previous post but there's nothing to be found.

The last mail I got was about their privacy policy changes in February. But I was informed by @ Karellen on the Kodi forum about their changes. :-)

I can understand their move, though. Hardware is expensive. And they can't earn money through ads if there are tools like MediaElch.

No it's a dick move to do. Without their users contributing they would've been nothing and if it were to expensive to run they should've let someone else run it or whatever. Now they decide to cash in on partly other people's good faith and work. Hopefully everyone move on to use and contribute to TMDB/TVMaze or any other site and leave them to rot. :D

Ok, I can understand your frustration. Now that I think about it: We currently depend on their images... That needs to change ASAP...

Just FYI: #1098 will add TVmaze as another TV scraper. I'm also working on rewriting our image scrapers so that we can get rid of TheTvDb. :-)
