What?

For me it's not visible, that there are GitHub-Links behind the names. Why are there the GitHub-Links? What was the use case for that? Should there be a possibility to contact the persons?

This was initially started here back in 2019. Last stance on this was this PR, but I don't think there was a specific reason on why it is using GitHub & GitHub links other than Kompakkt being an open source project and most people listed being developers.

However, there is the general contact mail at the top, and I think listing personal emails is prone to introduce spam mails, so personally, I'm fine with not being able to directly contact the persons. But maybe both teams could have a contact mail, as to know which version of Kompakkt a mail is about?

lozanaross commented 1 year ago

@Grizzly127 We all agreed on this last year. The Git links are for everyone who is part of the development team and I think they are better than emails. On our end, only Ina is contactable via email as Lab Director & on Cologne's side there is the general info email. I think this page is fine to stay as is to be honest, but I would like to see the Consortium page also integrated in Kompakkt, as it is in Semantic Kompakkt. @HeyItsBATMAN can you implement that with the next set of Kompakkt updates you're doing - thanks!

Grizzly127 commented 1 year ago

Alright. Thank you for the information. Here is just a suggestion to make it look a little bit nicer. But then it's not priority right now.

About page

Here are suggestions for an improvement of the about page. Here is a version I already suggested earlier:

Bildschirmfoto 2024-10-16 um 14 13 18

I got inspired by the GitHub-Info page and added some elements from there: V1:

Bildschirmfoto 2024-10-16 um 14 13 37

V2:

Bildschirmfoto 2024-10-16 um 14 14 59

V3: we can add semantic kompakkt the same way below then

What do you think? Which direction should we go?

lozanaross commented 1 month ago

Thanks @Grizzly127 - I think we should avoid photos, too hard to keep up to date.

I like v3, but maybe an idea would be to put the two products side by side - so the blue line is a bit more to the left and we have two columns side by side for Kompakkt & SK. Maybe a thin grey line separates the columns.

I would also remove "Kompakkt is being developed at" I would put the Dept. info directly next to Get in touch. Then I would have one point below Get in touch that's called "Code repositories" and the Github code repos are across from that. We don't need website, because we're on the website. Team is fine below.

Grizzly127 commented 1 month ago

I tried to put the two side by side but it doesn't look good yet I think, I also made the line simpler, since it is easier in the code later. What description can we use for semantic kompakkt? It should be different from kompakkt and maybe we call it "Project" then if we need a more general header than "Explore. Share. Embed."

Bildschirmfoto 2024-10-16 um 16 38 08

below each other it looked better I think, but I see the point that it would be nice to have them side by side

Thanks @Grizzly127 - I think we should actually only have one vertical line and one set of headings - they are the same anyway.

Logos can be left to the start of the text paragraphs. The short text for SK needs to be different, can be derived from NFDI4C website.

Then we'll have something more like a table structure, we can see if we need a grey line to separate the two columns for each product.

The vertical lines, can even be short horizontal lines above or below each heading to make it simpler for coding. Will try to find examples to show you what I mean.

Grizzly127 commented 1 month ago

Where can I find the text for SK? @lozanaross
I'm not sure if I find the right description on the NFDI4C website.

Here it is the first version, more table like. I will also mockup the version with the horizontal lines below the headings.

Here is a version with lines above or below the header:

Hi @Grizzly127

I think we're getting there, but we need to be more generous with the white space to make things a bit more elegant looking. Here's what I had in mind: Frame 412

The columns of text are skinnier and maybe the horizontal "impact" lines (instead of vertical) are neater. The logos can also be a bit smaller (20% smaller or so), but I couldn't figure out how to get the frames to behave and scale down neatly 😅, maybe you can try it. I made this in a draft file copy of yours because I can't edit your file directly. Here is a link to this copy file if you want to check it out - i pinned a comment next to this version of the page: https://www.figma.com/design/oq0rpCFfVMZRGkiCy7HgA9/New-layouts-for-SK-to-share-with-Senya?node-id=139-1803&t=55V9i64UmMKAiIEP-1.

The text for SK is here: https://nfdi4culture.de/services/details/semantic-kompakkt.html

We also need to update the email for SK, which is semantic-kompakkt@tib.eu

@lozanaross thank you for the idea! I like the design. I like the lines, but I made them a bit smaller and I managed to make the logos smaller:

When we agree on this. I can start developing it in the Code.
