We should put a license on this software. @bluegenes the DIBLab seems well versed in this aspect. Any suggestions of what we should use? BSD? A certain number of clause BSD, or something else?

absolutely! We have a pretty standard BSD 3-clause we use for most of our software -- added in #6 :).
