Force close when adding widget to desktop #16

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
When I try to add one of the EmWeather widgets to my desktop, the application
force closes, regardless of the size of the widget I try to add or how empty
the desktop is or whether I have a WiFi connection or not.

I'm running Donut (1.6) on an Archos 5 Internet Tablet, EmWeather version
0.9.3.8.3. The previous version (don't know the number) worked fine and the
widget updated as expected.

Thanks and love your app!

Hi!

Thanks a lot for this bug report, I really appreciate it and I am glad you like
EmWeather (when it is working).

I am going to look into this tonight.

A questions for you:
- Does the application itself work fine? It's just the widgets that are
causing the force closes?

One thing to try would be to remove the app completely
(settings->applications->manage applications->EmWeather->uninstall), reboot the
phone, and then re-install. This would make sure there wasn't any leftover
bits from earlier versions. I don't think this is the problem in this case but
it is worth a shot.

If you know how to use the sdk tools, I would love the relevant 10 or 15 lines
from "adb logcat" that show-up when you try to add a widget and it
force-closes. If not, don't worry, I'll figure it out.

I believe I found where there error is, there is a function I am using that
doesn't exist in 1.5 and 1.6 (I am using 2.1). Don't bother deleting and
re-installing or worrying about adb. I will try to post a fix tonight. Thanks
again for the report.

Thanks for such a quick response! Sorry about the double post - I got an HTML
POST error for the first one and it didn't show up at first.

Please try 0.9.3.8.4, I believe I have fixed this issue. No problem about the
duplicate post, I'd rather have two bug reports than zero! Please let me know
of any other issues or desired features you may have in the future!

Also, if you have a moment, I'd love to know what you think of the widget
design, the new icon sets, and if there are any things you wish I could add to
the app/widgets. You can email me at emweather + the standard google ending.

Hooray it works! The top and bottom borders of the widget are cut off
(including a little bit of the temperatures at the bottom) on the 2x2 widget,
but I can live with that, since I prefer the 4x2 widget, which isn't affected.
It may also be the Archos-specific desktop, which has closer icon spacing since
it's 6x5.

Yay! Great. I am marking this bug as closed, let me know if it comes back.

I'll make a little note to look at the sizings on the Archos later -
unfortunately Android makes it hard to make fluid layouts, especially for
widgets. Anyway, I will make a note about it for a future update.
