Change device names with Insteon? #71

Hi,

In the description of this plugin I've read this: "You can also configure HomeKit (using an app like Insteon+) to rename the Siri command for the "Watch TV" activity to something like "TV" and put it in the "Living Room" room, that way you can say "Hey Siri, turn on the Living Room TV" and Siri will start/switch to the "Watch TV" activity."

I've downloaded Insteon+. And all I can find in the app is the Homebridge and Harmony. I can see the different rooms (Living room, bedroom etc) but there aren't any devices/activities there.

If I try to add a new device I can't find any.

So how do I edit the names of the activities with Insteon+?

All the activities show up in the Home app.

Thanks!

Just download Elgato Eve app. You can do it there in settings/accesories and then access homebridge and siri names

you can also edit the activity names within the home app with a long press, then tap details. no need to trouble yourself with more apps than necessary

Wait what? Long press in Apples own Home app? Tried that and it didnt work?

tomto147, thanks for the tip!

By the way, can you give a device multiple names? In my language Its either TV or TVn (pronounced teven), and it only understand the one I name it.

As far as I know you can not change siri names after long press in home app. And no... there can be only one siri name for each activity. In my case it won't understand "turn on MTV" but its doing well with "turn on MTV Dance". Maybe siri doesn't like anything but dance music ;-). Same problems with TVN channel had to raname it for siri. BBC or Discovery etc are working fine.

In Apple's Home app. If you locate the accessory in your favorites, long press the accessory, img_1500 then tap details, img_1501 you get to a screen to choose your device name and room img_1502 You are able to rename it from within that last screen to call it whatever you want

Nice! I know what I did wrong, I pressed edit in the top right corner before longpressing.

Another question. I try to put my activities in different rooms. But if I change the room of one activity, all the other activities get the same room.

I have one Harmony hub with all the activities.

Isn't it possible to assign different rooms to different activities?

Thank you!

Glad that worked out for you :)

I believe each activity on the harmony hub must be in the same room. When I've changed the name of the room on one activity, the others have followed suit too. not a big deal for me as my hub only controls my home theater.

Thanks, because of problems with the latest version 0.2 I had to downgrade to 0.11 and it works much better! No problem (yet) and you can set all activities to different rooms. Why is the 0.2 a downgrade?

The docs should be updated with the note about using the Home app. It's far easier than installing another app, you likely don't need. It works perfectly, too! Love turning my TV on and off via Siri.
