Hello,

"check for updates" and self-updating is very common these days among Mac applications. Is it possible to have this convenient feature for merkaartor too?

There have been some talks about a unified updater for all platforms on the mailing list, but unfortunately I don't know how that ended (http://www.mail-archive.com/merkaartor@openstreetmap.org/msg02518.html). I didn't have time to look at Sparkle/QT integration (since one is C++ based and the other is Objective-C based) but I will at some point and will try to make an updater.

Target version set to FutureThe basic outcome was that the idea was bashed by the Linux guys, who prefer their (respective) standard packaging systems, so I forgot about it.

Might definitely be useful to Windows and Mac users, though...

Well, I read the conversation on the mailing list. In my eyes nobody got the point: Self updating is a work-around for non-existing or non-open packet-management-systems. So, for me, the linux guys have no voice in this discussion. It's a topic on Windows and on Mac. For Macs it would be possible to use the App Store nowadays, but I have no idea how much work it is.
