This bug was originally filed on Launchpad and being tracked at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/merkaartor/+bug/572551

"When merkaartor is maximised, if anything inside the window is clicked, the top menu and icons will disappear through the top of the GNOME panel. Only way to use it is leave it unmaximised.

This bug still affecting Maverick, both in the version from the repositories (0.16.1) and compiled from source (0.16.3).

It seems that clicking in the maximized window switches between the topmost part of the application and the bottom.

This only happens if the vertical screen size is smaller than the minimum window height of merkaartor. As the docks to the right require a lot of space this happens e.g. with my 1440x900. If you unmaximize Merkaartor (rightclick on Merkaartor in the panel > unmaximize) and close docks that require too much space, the program behaves as expected when maximized."

Priority changed from Normal to LowI already noticed that too.

The problem seems to be Qt not handling gracefully the case when the height of the lateral docking windows > available screen estate (on windows, the docks are drawn over each other).

After the first launch, reorganizing the docks to fit the available width (by closing or merging some) solves the problem.

Time permitting, I'll dig further into this.
