Kunenaimporter hasn't been updated since two or three years, it could have some issues. We haven't touched it to keep focus on Kunena component and his plugins/modules.
Did-you have used the button "download zip" or you have downloaded it from release ?
Thanks for your response. I tried the "download zip" button. The only packaged release that I could find was v1.7.1 but it is based on outdated versions of Joomla and Kunena.
Is the github HEAD likely to work with Joomla 2.5 and Kunena 2.0 if I find a way to install it?

I have just tried the component by taking the HEAD, it can be installed under Joomla! 2.5.28 but the component encounter some issues because it needs Kunena 2.0.4 and i'am using 3.0.6
If you taking the HEAD you need to know how to build the package
Thanks. I am willing to give it a try but where can I find instructions on how to create a build?

Can somebody please help me package or install the HEAD to try and import a PHPBB3 database?
Thanks!
You contact me on skype (my usersername : xillibit) because if you want i explain the method
Hi xillibit,
I too, am having a problem installing this importer. I am using Joomla 1.5.26 with Kunena 2.0.4 installed. I know these are very old; I'm working on getting everything up-to-date. I inherited a 10-year-old website 'upgrade job' for a non-profit company. This site originally had SMF1.0, and I migrated that successfully to SMF2.0 then phpBB3. Now, I need help to get that old forum into Kunena. I am getting the "Error! Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package." Is there a later version of this importer, or maybe a later version of Kunena can "import" without this special importer file. I prefer that I could do SOMETHING now in Joomla 1.5.26. I think Kunena should consider keeping some importer working; I am sure that many people trying to import old forums, would have just given up on Kunena rather than search the net; and write like I am doing right now. Please help.
Hello,
I think you should try on Joomla! 2.5 because i'am sure that it works on Joomla! 1.5.x
Hi again, Xillibit. I have now tried to install com_kunenaimporter-master.zip in Joomla versions 1.5.26, 2.5.9, 2.5.28, as well as 3.4.3. (php 5.4.43). Each and every time, I get a similar error: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file. Please help; I can't think of anything else to try.
How am I supposed to try out Kunena if I can't get the conversations (that my Boss wants to keep) into the Kunena forum? From reading the above conversation, there's a way by "building" it, whatever that means. I don't know how difficult a task that would be, and I have never used Skype. Can you please upgrade the importer to work on Joomla 1.5.26 or Joomla 2.5? Your prompt response will be much appreciated.
Hello,
I just noticied that the package available here on releases doesn't contains the xml at the root, so it's the reason why it fails. You can download from here : http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/kunena/frs/?action=FrsReleaseBrowse&frs_package_id=6065
We need to do a new release here to have a correct package
I am new to Joomla/Kunena. I want to import a PHPBB3 database. I installed Joomla 2.5.28 and Kunena 2.0.4.
I downloaded com_kunenaimporter.zip from here but Joomla refuses to install it. It looks like some xml file is missing from the zip file:
What should I do to install the importer?
Thanks.
