Elem is null #11

I'm trying to setup the wmd editor but I'm having an issue with the 
initialization of the editor.

The error is 

elem is null

on line 

if (elem.attachEvent) { 

If I try the example from the repo it works fine. Is there a known compatibily 
issue with jQuery or something ?
