I did a migration to Swift 3.0 using Xcode 8, and then upgraded the project to Xcode 9.1. There were errors due to the Swift migration but they were easy to fix; the project now happily runs on my iPad.
Things aren't entirely rosy; I can't get anything beyond basic VGA working. However, this is a good start.
