Open camachoreina opened 4 years ago
I discussed with Salvatore Mele from CERN, Nick Ellis from ATLAS and Martijn Mulders from CMS. Nick and Martijn are organizers of the CERN-Latinamerican schools, among many other things. Here is a list of important topics to follow up:
In the case of donations from CERN. If the donation is made to a non member state then we need to justify that a member state does not need the material. It can be complicated, Salvatore will check which is the procedure. We do not know the constraints from ATLAS and CMS property donations yet. Sending to UdP in Paris might be easier from their side or in the case of ATLAS and CMS, to send materials to collaboration member institutes.
What implies (legally and from the practical point of view) to receive the donation at UdP? @camachoreina and @ocariz need to look into this
Martijn will explore donation possibilities within CMS and Nick will do the same in several fronts: with LHCb and ALICE and the beamline schools team*
Nick suggested to contact Ariela Cattai, organiser of the EDIT school (an instrumentation school) to discuss about how she gets the material for the hands on sessions and shipping options (the school took place in Cuba a few years ago)
Nick also suggested to contact Ana Henriquez from ATLAS Tile Calorimeter group
CERN-Latinamerica school in March 2021. Overlap with first year of LA-CoNGA Physics. Could some of the schools teachers be interested in LA-CoNGA Physics? They will be in person en el Toro lado del charco
Interesting material to check for our syllabus discussion: the experiments at the beamline schools: https://beamlineforschools.cern/sites/beamline-for-schools.web.cern.ch/files/BeamAndDetectors_2020_0.pdf
We are exploring the feasibility of receiving material as donations i.e. old but working instrumentation : multimeters, scopes and such... We are in contact with CERN (ATLAS and CMS) and KM3net exploring legal and practical issues. Shipping and custom costs would have to be covered by us. We’d need some help on exploring the operational issues I.e. assume we are offered some PMTs: can we easily operate them (power supplies, acquisition etc…) ? @hyepesr will be our contact. @ocariz and @camachoreina will put Harold in contact with CERN.
