Managing subdatasets #301

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Git submodules are probably the trickiest area of Git, and the confusion caused may lead to disasters. I can see two solutions:

  1. Provide norms for how to properly handle subdatasets along with a cheatsheet
  2. Ask DataLad guys about it. Before that we should provide a list of use cases and ask them how things should be handled ideally or whether new functionalities could help.
