what is the usage of unum? #44

Hi, I am wondering what is the uniform number and what is the use of it? I tried to look at the document, but didn't find a place to explain the purpose of this value.

Each player has a uniform number, ranging from 1-11. (1 will be, at least in some respects, treated as the goalie; see #34 for some discussion of this.) It is used in identifying them for two of the high-level actions, Pass (to a teammate) and Mark Player (vs a particular opponent).
