I've been using a Jellyfin server and been liking it and I've been using the Infuse client. Infuse supports Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin, as well as direct SMB and NFS shares. I know it's available on iOS and Apple TV, but I'm not sure about Android. I believe it also has a pod aspect, but it doesn't interfere with media playback.
Yeah, it looks like Infuse is Apple only unfortunately.
Ah wait, I just read #3 and noticed the Free Software requirement. Oops
We can definitely do Infuse as an honourable mention (doesn't fit the general criteria). I've used it before to have the opinion of "it's decent." It becomes harder to find clients outside of that for the other major OSes we should support (namely Windows, Linux, and Android) for Jellyfin however (really all of the platforms).
See LLEB-ME/wiki#3 for reasoning behind this and that.
Dim seems to be a decent server, but only has web clients. Jellyfin looks decent as well, but the clients aren't very polished. Ideally, we find something with a protocol to use, but I'm not sure if anything exists like that.
