Proposal to allow direct invites for membership #20

Current policy dictates the following pipeline:

  1. ask someone if they would like to or be asked for an invite to the Farer group
  2. submit a proposal via GitHub for consideration
  3. have a GitHub invite sent for access to the network and a Discord invite prepared for usage

I am proposing the simplification of this pipeline by removing the staff vetting process that we currently have and allowing direct invitations. This in it of itself has many pros and cons. The added benefit of the ease of inviting more people at a member's discretion may outweigh the downside that comes with the ease of mass-inviting and the harsher requirements bestowed upon staff to uphold rulings.

This proposal should allow for more members to be encouraged to invite more people, ultimately growing the intranet. Although this has its flaws, it also can allow us to grow as a group and to gain more staff, more services, et al., et al. However, without the vetting process, new members who may not align with terms properly can be introduced at a more rapid pace than before. We ideally want to have members who want to participate in proposals like these, contribute to entertainment or to services, and be a "functioning member" of the group.

A vote is needed for this to be put in effect. A majority vote is needed to proceed. Voting will end by the end of this coming week (2022-05-22T03:00:00Z).

Vote as of 2022-05-23:

We would need 2 more votes for this to pass currently (a system that perhaps should be recrafted) to ensure a majority.

Those undetermined, please participate in this vote and any others currently labeled as needing a vote.

Voted. To expand upon this idea, I think we could add a strict no-tolerance policy, and making sure people have read every rule (and such) before joining. At the very least, we should allow users to invite people they know, all while keeping the affirmation of trust between the inviter and invitee.

The affirmation is a fundamental principle that will never go away (unless to be replaced with signed ink ) and has always and will always have zero tolerance at the discretion of the acting staff member.

Inviting others is a right users in Farer have and I don’t plan to ever try revoking such unless in the event of some catastrophe. We can expand upon and have a confirmation step for those joining.

Due to the age of this proposal, I'm going to close it until further notice. Members are more than open to bringing new proposals or revisions to this proposal.
