When scrubbing, the movie "gets behind" the slider, and even after you let go, blockbuster is still trying to catch up with all the messages it receives. Don't send so many frame change message when scrubbing, throttle them some reasonable way.

It is actually true that if this works crisply, the need for a "scrub" button disappears, as you would only disable it to get good snappiness anyhow.
