Project Update #3

This was a very productive meeting! We first went over our individual assignments from the past week for our project. We each read specific stories from The Metamorphoses and we took note of things that we thought would be useful to markup. Our research question analyzes and compares feminine and masculine divinity (we mostly talked about divine femininity), here are some of our notes from the 8 stories we read:

• In many of the myths we read, feminine deities represent birth, growth, death
• The term "virginity" is mentioned throughout to describe feminine characters, this is as means of bodily autonomy
• there are feminine deities that possess "masculine" traits
• How do women interact with each other? woman vs woman
• Masculine deities = destruction, war
• What does it mean to be divine? (this is still a crucial question we have)

Here are tag ideas we have for markup:

• Names/references to characters -Places -Instances of birth and death -Action vs. dialogue -Desire (!!!!!) <desire object="diana" perp="jupiter"> -Jealousy <jealousy object="arachne" perp="minerva"> -Violence/rage -Transformation - physical, social Is it masculine/feminine coded? Both? Neither?

Tasks for next week:

• Charlie: strip TEI markup from stories, create separate document for each story
• Luciana: Begin schema, using the tags we talked about today
• Renee and Ava: Wire framing for website, give Luciana feedback/help on schema as necessary
