If we start storing more organized meta-data in the mmpz
's we'd happily add these fields to the LSP as well.
We're already pulling out the version information here: https://github.com/LMMS/lmms.io/blob/master/public/lsp/dbo.php#L780
In genre input when you type it should offer genre names depending on what you type. Press space to insert another to combine.
Ambient Acid Acoustic Blues Jazz Chiptune Classic Covers Country Dance Drum'n'Bass Experimental Euro Funk Garage Grunge Hardcore HipHop House Industrial Indie Metal Misc Latin Pop Punk Progressive Reggae Rock Rap Smooth Trance Techno Orchestral
The purpose of LMMS is to make music, not tutorials. Is the tutorial tab really necessary when it would apply only to a limited number of projects, and there's already a big text box available?
I agree with @grejppi here. Seeing a tutorial tab actually just confused me. Furthermore, all the other fields in this tab (except maybe for license) are expected to be placed in the file's metadata when you export your song. So non-metadata seems out of place for the "Info" tab. That's fixable though - just make the "Tutorial" section its own tab (but I still don't think that should go in lmms).
Thank you Umcaruje! I removed tutorial tab. Now it should be ok for exporting song with comment.
How about making a metadata tab and a notes tab, and using the metadata entered when exporting?
Updated!
@budislav your mockups are....insane! 👍
Eh, still not convinced about the tutorial making feature.
LMMS interface uses a condescending tone everywhere. Instead of trusting the user it tells them what to do. There is a core component that you can use for a lot of things (hence #120), but its name tells you to use it for beats and basslines only. Tooltips and "What's This?" popups all over the place holding your hand firmly while telling you "use this if you want to do that...you should do it this way...this is useful for cool effects..."
To me, this is something I'd really like to get rid of.
Back to the mockup. There is now a button in the toolbar. It's labeled 'Step'. When you click on it, two rows of dashes and between them the text 'STEP 1' appears in the text box.
What... is the purpose of that? There's no context.
Well, there could be a default text in the box: If you want to make tutorials, please click on step button to add first step.
Would that do? A new user opening LMMS for the first time would be told: "do this if you want to make tutorials", but they would rather read existing tutorials first.
PS. I can just about imagine this happening...
Step is really a heading, which most people are familiar with IMO.
@grejppi nothing is stopping the improvements you've mentioned. :+1:
Thanks @SimoneIervasi ! @grejppi I removed that also.
Closing as superseded per email request from @budislav, see also https://github.com/LMMS/lmms/issues/1911#issuecomment-2027443697.
This part comes from Single window concept #1911 but since all of this are new features I represent it here.
