I think the best approach to this would be that one bar plays just with the metronome before you start recording. Its a simple, clean solution. I don't think there is a need for user inserting ms values or stuff like that, since its just overcomplicating it.

Agreed.
BUT HOW it can work in BB editor where no one can setup marker before recording pattern? It's not clear...
@NETMANSKY -there is no record option in BB, but there is in BB opened as piano-roll, and then the issue is transparent.
@musikBear Thanks. But countdown is not working in BB pianoroll that's the whole point. In FL it's working as I know. I think it must be setting option. I hope someday it will.
As someone who can only record MIDI notes with the computer keyboard, having this feature would be massively helpful as right now I have to wait a bar after starting recording if I want to time it right. When I'm finished I have to manually drag the recorded notes back to the starting position. It gets repetitive and time-wasting really quick as recording is something you do all the time.
Even though i suggested the feature, i have to say that it is not necessary. This was in 2014, 6 y ago. We had a very different lmms, then! Now in 2020 we have a metronome so just placing the playhead one bar before the actual recording should start, will give the functionality, we could not do that in 2014. An other way is to use a sample going "di di di dyyy" Then you add that AFP with the count-down-sample, to you default template, and you always have a time-count ready in your current project. You can have different beepers for different projects-types. That gives us 2 different ways to achieve what i originally was asking for in 2014, imo this can be done with current 2020 1.2.1, so i will close this issue. If anyone disagree, or need more instructions, add a comment, or even ask to have it reopened. Imo this is fixed.
I'll disagree with you there and insist that the issue re-opens.
Honestly, your solutions seem quite complicated for something that can be solved with a simple toggle button like in FL Studio. Yes, of course whenever you record you can always move the playhead one bar before the actual recording starts, but imagine doing this dozens, hundreds, thousands of times. Not fun.
I agree with @tghgg, this still is a desirable feature.
Agree this would be very useful; especially when recording the start of the track.
Is anybody working on this?
Kind of related to #475, because the metronome is involved. When user want to 'record' notes during playback in piano-roll, a signal pre-sequence should be an optional choice ie: di di di dyyy - att dyyy, the record starts This gives the user a chance to be ready to follow the playback score. I think it should be optional, because some would perhaps find it anoying (a simple toggle in setting) A different aproach could be to use the ms counter, and let user insert a value, that then would count down as a visuel, but an audiel 3+1 secd sequence would do fine. Init-event could be right-click, on either record-options in P-R
