Installation fails on Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04.1

I have been using LMS for some time, and had few issues until recently. When I updated to ubuntu 22.04 I could no longer get it to run. I updated to LMS 8.3.1, but the problem persisted. Google tells me that this may be because Ubuntu 20.04 and beyond no longer uses the start-stop-daemon. I have resolved the problem by reverting to Ubuntu 18.04, but I would much prefer to be running a supported OS.

Is there an effort to resolve this issue?

LMS should run just fine. Do you know whether it isn't started, or whether it fails? What platform are you on? 32 bit Intel?

I am running it on a Gigabyte model GB-BXBT-2807 minibox with a Celron N2807, 64 bit processor.

Normally it starts up when the computer starts. In the past I could open the web interface at as I recall) http://127.0.0.0:9000. I could find nothing there. I noticed, when I installed onto the box with the 18.04 OS, I was asked for an address for installing the web interface. I don't recall that happening in the past when I installed LMS. With the present installation I access the LMS web interface at the address of the server (192.168.1.251:9000)

Another bit of information. I actually upgraded the OS to 22.04 with LMS already installed rather than installing to a fresh 22.04. I think I had previously upgraded the system from 18.04 to 20.04 with no problem with the LMS installation. I could be wrong about that. Don't remember for sure.

I have two of these little computers, so I will do a fresh install of the OS and then attempt another installation of LMS, paying close attention to what happens and taking notes.

Correction. I didn't take notes when doing all this, and I forgot the sequence of events. As I said before, I first updated the OS on which LMS was installed and running. At that point I tried to reach the web interface at 127.0.0.0:9000, but the browser couldn't connect to that address. I then decided to reinstall LMS, but the installer said that dependencies couldn't be satisfied.

I then installed Ubuntu 18.04 on an identical machine, and LMS then installed with no problem except asking me for an IP address. I can now reach the that web interface from any machine on the network.

What exact message would that be? And what would be asking for an IP? LMS certainly does not. It would use whatever the system uses.

What would perl -v give you? Did you install Linux as 32 bit or as 64 bit?

I am installing to a 64 bit machine, a Gigabyte model GB-BXBT-2807 minibox with a Celron N2807. I downloaded LMS from https://www.mysqueezebox.com/download. It is listed as being for X86_64.

I am actually installing on kubuntu, not ubuntu. I have found the same problem reported with ubuntu.

With kubuntu 2022 the perl version is 5.34.0.
With kubuntu 2018 the perl version is 5.26.1

As to the request for an ip address, it is true that I have never been asked for one before when installing LMS. Somehow, when I was installing to 2018, I was asked, so I input the ip address of the computer to which I was installing, and now I can reach the web interface at that ip address. This is really not a problem, just a curiosity, as I hope the 2018 installation is just temporary.

The problem that I would like to resolve, is the inability to install to kubuntu 2022. The problem there is that the installer reports that it cannot satisfy dependencies. The same error occurs with LMS versions 8.3.1 and 7.9.2. I have installed both LMS versions on kubuntu 2018 without a hitch.

I do not find such a file on the system with Kubuntu 22.04, the system on which the installer refuses to proceed due to missing dependencies. I do find the file on the system with kubuntu 18.04 installed. Here it is:

Don't know what you did to make this so hard to read... but anyway: that log file suggests LMS was running. What makes you believe it doesn't run?

Again, LMS runs fine when installed on kubuntu 2018. I sent you the log for that server.

My issue is that I cannot install LMS on kubuntu 2022. When I attempt to install it using the deb package, the system reports that it cannot satisfy the dependencies.

I managed to install LMS on the computer running kubuntu 2022.04.1despite the fact that the default package manager failed to install the deb package, instead reporting a dependency problem.

I installed by running sudo dpkg -i /media/rcdawson/CF97-921E/logitechmediaserver_8.3.1_amd64.deb

This reported that the missing dependency was libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl. I then attempted to run sudo apt install libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl. That resulted in the suggestion that I run apt --fix-broken install which I did.

This resulted in a functioning server, but a new problem arose when setting up the server. LMS was unable to open my home directory. I will open up another trouble report to address that.
