Jane Loveland 3:45 AM @channel we received the following message to the GENCODE helpdesk, can someone please help: Hi, I am working on the LRGASP challenge - I’m not sure if this is the right email address to contact, and if it is not, would you be able to redirect me to the correct email? Otherwise, I have a question regarding the simulated human and mouse data: when I try to download the data using Synapse, I am getting the following error: SynapseHTTPError: 403 Client Error: You lack READ access to the requested entity. Are there permissions that I am missing for downloading these files, and do you have more information about how I would be able to download the data?

Dear Mark,

Thank you for reaching out to the Synapse Access & Compliance Team (ACT).

Currently, we restrict data on Synapse so that Synapse users must have a registered account to be able to download data. The reason for this is that users must agree to the Synapse Pledge indicating that they will utilize data ethically and responsibly when they register for an account. Making data available to anyone on the web (including people without registered accounts) poses some risk of data misuse since people would be able to access the data without agreeing to the Pledge.

However, depending on the nature of the data, we may be able to enable data download for anyone on the web on the back-end. Could you please explain your use case and explain to me the nature of the data (i.e. is this human data, do the datasets contain -omics data, etc)? Also, are you the PI for this dataset and are you authorized to share this data broadly?

Thank you!
